Recognizing the various denominations of Christian belief and practice under which many of our members may have made their professions of faith, the members of this church associate ourselves with all who follow Jesus, and promise to work with one another in this church to further its Christian testimony through worship and in service, supporting its efforts as best we are able.
Summary of Primary Beliefs:
- We believe that the Bible is the inspired, authoritative Word of God and may be trusted as God’s Truth for what we believe, teach and how we are to live.
- We believe in the One God who is revealed as Father (Creator), Son (Jesus), and Holy Spirit (the dynamic presence and power of God)
- We believe Jesus Christ is God’s Son who was born of the Virgin Mary and is fully human and fully divine.
- We believe Jesus is the only Savior of humankind, that He died on the cross for all sin, and that He rose from the dead. All who would believe in Him and repent of their sin are forgiven, made righteous before God, and resurrected with Christ in heaven.
- We believe that those who put their faith and trust in Jesus Christ are transformed by the Holy Spirit and become the children of God.
- We believe God created humankind in His image to reflect His glory and to exist forever in a loving relationship with Him.
In order for this relationship between God and humans to be authentic God gave humanity freedom of will. Yet, humanity misused this freedom by disobeying God resulting in a separation from God called sin. This sin of disobedience is repeated in all persons today and leads to spiritual death. Joyfully, God offers freely to all persons the regenerating power of Christ’s grace. Accepting Christ’s grace in repentance of sin is the way to a renewed relationship with God today and for eternity.
- We believe God, in His own time and in His own way, will bring the world to its prophesied end. By His own promise, Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly in glory to the earth; the dead will be raised; and Christ will judge all people.
- We believe in many means of receiving God’s Grace: prayer, study of the scriptures, fellowship, worship, service fasting and the sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion.
In baptism, we baptize both adults and children of adult believers into the community of faith.
In Holy Communion (also called The Lord’s Supper, The Last Supper, The Eucharist), we recognize, celebrate and receive by faith the spiritual presence and power of Christ in the elements of juice and bread. All who believe in Christ Jesus as Savior and Lord and repent of their sin are welcome to participate.
- We believe that the church is the body of Christ in the world today. The New Testament tells us the church is an organized body of baptized believers. The head of the church is Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit calls, equips, and empowers believers for ministry in the world to redeem the world. The United Methodist Church is one of many denominations of the larger Body of Christ. No Christian community may claim to exclusively possess Jesus Christ’s authority for truth and ministry.
- We believe the church exists to bring people into new life, transformed by faith, hope and love in Jesus Christ. Our commission is to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, of the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching what Jesus has commanded. (Matthew 28:19-20)
