Guidelines for H.E.L.P.S. Volunteers

SAFETY
  • Do not participate in any task that you think might result in injury to you or someone else in the work area.  Stop immediately.  There is always time to discuss the best and safest way to do something.  If you are still not comfortable, please contact the HELPS coordinator.
  • Do not volunteer for things that may not be within your physical or technical capabilities.  We have a large team of volunteers to help support a broad range of needs.  This ministry is set up so that all may be used to serve in the best way for them.

CONFIDENTIALITY
  • You are likely going to be invited into people’s homes.  With that goes the responsibility to respect their privacy.  We all have different priorities and circumstances which results in us all living differently (God made us unique on purpose).  You have volunteered to fulfill a specific need/request.  Anything that you see or hear not related to the task at hand is confidential and should not be shared with anyone.  (Anything that compromises safety can and should be discussed as needed)
  • Not everyone who needs our service is happy to be asking for it.  We are a proud people and it is often difficult to seek out assistance.  We are thankful when those in need can overcome this obstacle and reach out for help since then everyone wins.  It should be the decision of the person we have served to share the fact that they received help from us or not.

PREPARATION
  • Remember you are working for God.  It is His will at work, not ours.  So please pray about your service before you begin.  Let go and let God!
  • Organize any plans and tools required for the task in advance to be sure you have what you need.  These things should be listed on the task worksheet and indicated whether they are being provided at the work site or not.  If you do not have an item that is needed, please contact the HELPS coordinator prior to beginning your service.
  • Please abide by the scheduled date and time arranged with the person asking for assistance.  If for some reason you cannot be on time or perform the work on the agreed-upon date, please contact the HELPS coordinator immediately.

FINISHING
  • Please be sure to leave everything the way you found it or better.
  • Report completion of the project to the HELPS coordinator.
  • Accept NO money.  Requestors can make donations to the church, but these details should have been arranged at the time of the request and are not your responsibility.

Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these, you did for me."
